Learn how to build attractive, inexpensive outdoor furniture with wooden pallets.

The Hailey Public Library and the City of Hailey are co-hosting the hands-on workshop from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 1.

The class will be taught by Jim Lynch, Hailey’s building inspector. Lynch built the colorful pallet furniture that recently took up residency outside the library.

The workshop will be catered by Lago Azul and pre-registration is requested.

Participants will also have the opportunity to help plant planters with seasonal flowers, creating a temporary town square on Croy Street with the pallet furniture and tents with special seating areas.

Creating a temporary town square will give the library, which is often at capacity, an opportunity to provide additional activities and programs, said Library Director LeAnn Gelskey.

“The furniture and potted flowers will brighten our community and make it even more welcoming,” said  Gelskey. “And this project creates an extension of the library, which all residents in our community can use. We’re excited to teach people how to make this fun, inexpensive pallet furniture that they can then create at home for themselves.”

The Hailey City Council is considering Croy Street next to the library and another site—Croy Street and First Avenue across from the Blaine County Courthouse—as locations for a proposed town square.

The council will discuss the pros and cons of both sites and examine preliminary cost estimates during its Monday, July 8, meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Displays of each site are on view at City Hall and additional materials can be found at https://www.haileycityhall.org/documents/1904-29Presentation.pdf

To pre-register for Monday’s pallet building workshop, call 208-788-2036 or visit www.haileypubliclibrary.org.
