World renowned Raku Artist Jim Romberg will offer a raku firing demonstration during this year’s Tuscany on Tenth benefit for Boulder Mountain Clayworks.
Romberg is in town to lead a workshop for Clayworks. And while he’s here he will take part in the annual fundraising benefit for pottery studio.
The benefit will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 25, in and outside the studio at 471 E. 10th St., B6, in Ketchum.
There’ll be gourmet pizza from the Ketchum Grill, Italian specialties from The Haven and dessert from Toni’s Ice Cream and Portia’s Kitchen.
There also will be silent and live art auction of studio artists work, including a group tote and an Italian dinner for eight with dinnerware crafted by Lauren Street.
Everyone who attends will get to choose from an array of complimentary pottery wine cups that they can fill and then take home as keepsakes. And there will be raffle prizes galore.
Tickets are $60, available at bouldermtclay@gmail.com.
The proceeds go to Clayworks, which brings in guest artists to teach classes to adults. The studio also stages Family Clay Afternoons and pottery classes for youth. This year, for instance, children ages 6 through 12 can create acrobatic contortionists, flying elephants and fire hoop jumping tight rope walkers in Cirque du Clay workshops offered every week through Aug. 16.
Clayworks also provides free workshops to children with cancer attending Camp Rainbow Gold and it engages the community in making bowls for The Hunger Coalition’s annual soup fundraiser.
As for Romberg’s class?
Raku with Jim Romberg will be held July 27 and 28.
Romberg will take participants beyond the path of usual Raku to explore new glazing, firing and reduction techniques.
The fee is $270 for Boulder Mountain Clayworks members and $300 for non-members.
