Check out Lago Azul—the valley’s El Salvadoran restaurant—at tonight’s Business After Hours.
The Chamber of Hailey and the Wood River Valley will hold its monthly BAH from 5 to 7 tonight—Thursday, Oct. 17--at Lago Azul, 14 W. Croy St., in Hailey.
There’ll be tasty Mexican and Salvadoran bites and a chance to meet business owners and learn about the upcoming Halloween Hoopla in Hailey.
Jose and Sandra Castillo opened Lago Azul 17 years ago. The restaurant, which received a makeover not too long ago, reflects the red colors of the tiles covering colonial Salvadoran houses. And the menu features pupusas—El Salvador’s national dish made of handmade corn tortillas stuffed with soft Salvadoran cheese, refried beans and pork.
Both Jose and Sandra left the chaos of their native land behind, moving to Los Angeles. When Los Angeles became too scary with gangs running the streets, they moved their family to Hailey, winning over diners with Mulitas and Tinga Tacos, Lengua Encebolla, Mar y tierra, yucca fries and fried plantain made from scratch, as well as traditional Mexican foods, such as Chimichanga and Chile Rellenos.
