A two-time Grammy Award winner/two-time Emmy nominee will headline 11th annual Lost N Lava Cowboy Gathering this weekend in Shoshone.

Dom Flemons, known as “the American Songster,” will be among those appearing at the gathering tonight and Saturday, Sept. 19. He will perform Saturday night, along with Andy Hedges, Tony Argento, Travelin Miles and Honey Bear

Flemons, who lives in Washington, D.C., picks and chooses from a repertoire that covers more than a hundred years of American folklore, ballads and tunes. A music scholar and historian, he expertly plays a variety of instruments, including banjo, fife, guitar, harmonica, jugs, percussion, quills and rhythm bones.

He made his solo debut on the Grand Ole Opry in 2018 and has been included in the 2018 class of American Currents at the Country Music Hall of Fame. He also co-founded the Carolina Chocolate Drops, who won a Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Albums in 2010 and were nominated for Best Folk Album in 2012.

Flemons will be joined by Andy Hedges from Lubbock, Texas, a songster, storyteller and collector of cowboy songs and poems Dust Bowl ballads and blues. Hedges hosts a podcast, “Cowboy Crossroads,” which features interviews with fellow musicians and poets. A regular at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, he has performed many times with Ramblin’ Jack Elliott.

  • The High Country Cowboys, whose three-part western harmony has been compared to the Sons of the Pioneers, will perform at the Friday night concert, along with the Panhandle Cowboys and A.K. Moss. Born and raised in ranch country in South Central Montana, they were awarded Music Group of the Year in 2017 and 2018 and Best Album of the Year by the Pro Cowboy Country Association. Lead singer Marty was also named Yodeler of the Year in 2017 and Male Vocalist of the year in 2018.

The gathering will be held at the Lincoln County Community Center and Fairgrounds. Shows begin at 11 a.m. today and at noon Saturday and run until 5 p.m. both days. Evening concerts begin at 7 p.m. both days with a pre-show at 6:30 p.m.

The day shows are free. Tickets are $20 for one of the evening concerts and $35 for both, available at  www.lostnlavagathering.com or by calling 208-886-7787.

Part of the proceeds from the concerts go to a scholarship for a Lincoln County High School senior seeking higher education in agriculture and ranching.

Vendors will be on site.
