STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

Sun Valley Nordic Center has opened for the season.

The Nordic Center opened on Friday with most of its trails groomed for both classic and skate skiing, including Boundary, Proctor and even Sidewinder.

The Nordic Center packed down a foundation before Thanksgiving after Sun Valley was blessed with more than two feet of snow. Then it waited for more snow, suffering through a day of rain and a couple sunny weeks of temperatures in the upper 30s.

Leif’s Loop, the Practice Loop and other trails near the Sun Valley Club were in excellent shape on Friday. There were soft spots on the Boundary and Proctor loops but nothing that one pass over by the snow groomer can’t cure.
