STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

Sun Valley’s Christmas Eve Ice Show may be cancelled this year due to COVID.

But the Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade and Fireworks will go on. After all, Santa Claus relishes having a bevy of lights to guide him to Sun Valley each year.

The show starts at 5:45 p.m. To promote social distancing, spectators are invited to watch from Penny Hill, the White Clouds and the Sun Valley Pavilion lot.

You can enjoy musical performances by the Sun Valley Carolers through Monday, Dec. 28, in Sun Valley Village, while checking out the lights and participating in the Winter wonderland Window Stroll and Scavenger Hunt (check with the Sun Valley Guest Center for more information).

The carolers perform at 6 and 8 p.m. on the Boiler Room Patio, 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. at the Inn Fire Pit and 7:15 and 9:15 p.m. in front of the Sun Valley Lodge.

On Monday, Dec. 28, there will be a Family Skate Session at the Sun Valley Outdoor Ice Rink from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The skate is themed 80’s on Ice so dress up in your acid-washed jeans, neon jackets and anything with shoulder pads.

And mark New Year’s Eve on your calendar. Sun Valley Resort will hold Family Night Skiing and Fireworks on Dollar Mountain to ring in what HAS to be a better year than 2020.

The music and the fun runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $40 for adults and $30 for kids 12 and under.

Just remember to keep your distance and wear a mask, as it’s mandated by the City of Sun Valley. And smile, even if no one can see it.
