She entered the world without a care in the world, despite the pandemic raging around her.

Hazel LeeAnn Clegg is the first baby born at St. Luke’s Wood River in 2021. She arrived at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3. She weighed 7 pounds ad 6 ounces and measured 19 and a quarter inches from head to toe.

Hazel is the daughter of Amy and Austin Clegg. Her name derived from an Old English word meaning the hazelnut tree with a hazelnut wand historically symbolizing protection and authority. It also can represent the color of someone’s eyes.

Her two older brothers are excited to have a new baby sister.

St. Luke’s presented Hazel with a St. Luke’s onesie and receiving blanket. They also presented the family with a special gift basket. One of the items in that gift basket—a cuddly teddy bear—will accompany her home to Stanley.
