He is justly regarded as the greatest statesman of modern times. And, oh, what a life he led!
Winston Churchill rode in one of the last calvary charges of the British empire as a young officer in Queen Victoria’s army in 1898. By the time Queen Victoria’s great-great granddaughter ascended to the throne a mere 54 years later, he was leading England through the atomic age.
Historian Lee Pollock treats Sun Valley audiences to glimpses of this man every year. And this year will be no different as he offers a free presentation “Churchill and the Royals” at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16. The presentation will be held outdoors on the Library’s Donaldson Robb Family Lawn on 4th St.
It will be recorded for later viewing.
Pollock will explore the singular relationship between Winston Churchill and the British crown, even promising to shed new light on one of history’s most enduring institutions. He has even alluded to bringing Harry and Meghan into the conversation.
Pollock serves as a trustee and advisor to the Board of The International Churchill Society where he was formerly executive director. He also led the development of the National Churchill Library and Center in Washington, D.C.
He is the author of “Action This Day: Adventures with Winston Churchill” and a frequent contributor on Churchill topics for The Wall Street Journal and other publications.
