Two artists in the Wood River Valley are offering a variety of children’s camps this summer.
- Jessica Mayne is offering one week of Summer Theatre Camp during which children will explore acting, singing, writing, costume design and set design as they learn the meaning of creative collaboration.
It'll be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 11-15 at C’s Mountain School of Music, 100 N. 2nd Ave., Hailey. Cost is $100 per child. Contact Jessica at jessicalmayne@gmail.com or at 978-394-4395 to register.
- Cara Drougas is hosting three visual arts camps.
The first—Animalia--focuses on animal art of all kinds and will be held June 27-30. The camp, for those ages 6-11, costs $345.
Your American Flag is a one-day workshop on Friday, July 1. It costs $100 and is suitable for those ages 6 through 102. Oh, and there’ll be ice cream.
A Youth Studio will involve creating pieces from various mediums. It will be held July 5-8 for those ages 8-13. It costs $345.
Drougas said it was her Great Aunt Bell, a New York interior designer with Lord & Taylor in the 1940s, who taught her to stare and draw without looking. She ended up studying German expressionism at UCLA.
“My art camps are a time to share my love of art with kids,” she said. “I know that from a young age I loved to be in nature, look deeply into blades of grass or the center of a flower and learn how it feels to draw a spontaneous gesture. Art in the Garden means .. creating in the wide open, and openly creating. I get to have kids' imaginations all day, which means the creative button has been switched ‘On!’ ”
