Up to 200 super cars, classics and collectibles are expected to be on display during tonight’s fifth annual Sun Valley Tour de Force Car Show at Sun Valley Festival Meadows.
The cars will begin rolling into the field just before 5 p.m. tonight—Friday, July 22--and will be available for the public to view free of charge until 8 p.m.
Spectators will have the opportunity to purchase Sun Valley Tour de Force merchandise, including “No Speed Limit” signs, as well as food and beverages from Warfield Distillery, Sawtooth Brewery, La Parilla, Smokey Bone BBQ, Shaved Ice Sun Valley & Pizza, KB’s and Hailey Coffee Company, while being entertained by radio personality Peter Bush and Max Monahan.
The car show is part of three days of events that bring car enthusiasts to Sun Valley from around the country and offers the chance to see some of the rarest and most valuable cars in the world. Among them, the McLaren Artura, the brand’s first series-production High-Performance Hybrid supercar, which can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in three seconds and achieve a top speed of 205 miles per hour.
The highlight of the three days, of course, is the opportunity for drivers to see how fast their cars can go on Highway 75 fifteen miles north of Ketchum. About 50 high-speed drivers will pay $2,750 per run to drive their car at top speed down Phantom Hill in view of the Boulder Mountains near Cathedral Pines from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 23.
There are no hosted restrooms, tents, bleachers or food trucks onsite and there is no parking between Cathedral Pines and the Wood River Campground. But spectators may bike, hike or be dropped off at the locale. All spectators need to be 300 feet off the road when the highway is closed.
The road is permitted to be closed for 20 minutes at a time, opening periodically for through traffic.
Seventy-five drivers took a scenic drive over Galena Summit to Smiley Creek on Thursday. They will conclude the weekend with a Cars & Comedy gala dinner on Saturday night. The dinner is the chief fundraising event of the weekend.
This year’s Sun Valley Tour de Force is raising money for The Hunger Coalition, a local nonprofit serving those struggling with food insecurity. The Tour de Force, produced by the nonprofit Intrepid Events, Inc., donated $175,000 to The Hunger Coalition following its 2021 event.
