Cello player Kyla Davidson will present “Memorial to Martin Luther King” and other selections in a free concert with pianist Joel Bejot on Sunday.

The two will perform at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Ketchum.

The two will perform Oskar Morawetz’s “Memorial to Martin Luther King,” Valentin Silvestrov’s “Postludium” and excerpts of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Sonata for Cello and Piano.” The pieces will be preceded by short explanation.

Davidson has competed and performed nationally and internationally. She represented the College of Idaho at the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar in 2008 and 2009 and returned to her alma mater as adjunct cello faculty for the 2020-2021 term.  She has mentored many young artists at the Sun Valley Summer Symphony Festival, the Tahoe Music Institute and the College of Idaho Cello Festival. Currently, she is enrolled at the graduate school at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Joel Bejot is an organist and choirmaster and owner of Joel Bejot Music Studio. He has worked for a variety of churches, ensembles, and organizations for more than 18 years, including St. Thomas Episcopal Church which he joined in 2013.

During his tenure at St. Thomas, Joel has developed an Evensong program, a handbell program and  reinvigorated the children’s choir program. He has brought in recitalists for the St. Thomas Chamber Music Series and plays regular solo organ recitals.

Bejot received his Master of Music in Organ Performance from the University of Denver in 2010, and his Bachelor of Music with a Church Music emphasis from Concordia University in Seward, Neb., in 2004. Joel is very happy to live in this wonderful area with his wife and three school-age children.
