The Community Library will celebrate the end of summer with its annual open house: “Book Around the Library: Fun, Food and Freebies.”
The free event will be held Thursday, Aug. 25—from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The library will have activities for both children and adults, including:
- Children’s Fun: Chalk art, Bubbles, and Dragonfly Craft: Build and launch a dragonfly into the air!
- Chihuly Blanket Cylinders Exhibit: A rare opportunity to see pieces assembled from four decades of work by glass maestro Dale Chihuly + win prizes in the “I Spy” scavenger hunt
- Banned Book Bingo: Test your wits against trivia from banned/challenged books and win $25 gift cards to the Gold Mine!
- Time Warp Photo Booth: Have your picture taken “getting off the bus” in Sun Valley in 1955
- Book Giveaway: Add to your own library with select titles from our overflow collection
- Free Bites & Beverages: Yummies for kids and adults from Sun Valley Company
- Taco Truck: FREE tacos from Taqueria al Pastor
- Music on the Lawn: Dancing through the decades
“This is our chance to give back to the whole community,” said Carter Hedberg, the library’s director of philanthropy. “This is the first time we’ve been able to capitalize on all the spaces that the Library has to offer--inside and out--since the renovation and subsequent pandemic closure. We’re throwing the doors open … not just open, wide open!”
