Evel Knievel’s family and friends will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the stuntman’s attempt to fly over the Snake River Canyon on Sunday, Sept. 1.
Motorcycle legend Robbie Maddison and six-time gold medal X Game champion Colby Raha will kick off the festivities by leading a motorcycle parade from the Valley Wide Country Store Crossroads on the north side of Perrine Bridge to downtown Twin Falls.
The parade will start at 11 a.m. at the store at 393 Crossroads Point in Jerome and conclude in downtown Twin Falls at Koto Brewing, 157 Main St.
Kaptain Robbie Knievel’s daughter Krysten Knievel and The Knievel Daredevil Band will provide live music. The Skycycle that Evel piloted into the canyon on Sept. 8, 1974, will be on display and there will be photo and autograph opportunities with the Knievel family members.
Additionally, a new Destihl “Evel Knievel Imperial IPA” will be unveiled.
Robert “Evel” Knievel, who grew up in Butte, Mont., made a name for himself on ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jumps at county fairs and other events. He attempted to leap 1,600 feet across the canyon on a rocket-powered cycle he dubbed the Skycycle X-2. The jump failed due to a parachute malfunction but Knievel was rescued from the bottom of the canyon with minor injuries.
