The Blaine County Recreation District will offer its third Ski Free Day of the season on Saturday, Feb. 22.

All Nordic trails and snowshoe trails will be free from Quigley to Galena Lodge. Dogs may accompany skiers and snowshoers on trails where dogs are permitted.

Skiing remains good from Quigley north, thanks to recent snows and temperatures dipping into the teens at night.

Last week BCRD threw its annual Ski the Rails along the Wood River Trail from Ketchum to Hailey. It was a bit of a slog, thanks to early morning temperatures near zero that made the snow slow and overnight snowfall that made conditions soft.

That meant classical skiers had the easier time of it, getting to the waffle fries and lagers BCRD had waiting for them at Hailey’s Sawtooth Brewery before many of the skate skiers.

“It’s our big community event of the year,” said BCRD Executive Director Mark Davidson. “I love it—I’ve done it every year since I moved here.”
