The outcome of the game was decided before the Homecoming King and Queen were announced at halftime. The Wolverines, fueled by a career performance by senior quarterback, Cade Schott, scored touchdowns on six of their first seven possessions during the first half to take a 42-0 lead and put the game out of reach in the second quarter.

Meanwhile, the defense held Burley at bay, keeping the Bobcats off the scoreboard all night, bottling up the run and completely shutting down the Burley passing game.

Burley only managed to cross mid-field once the entire contest. A Taylor Koth 17-yard field goal in the fourth quarter provided the final score of 45-0 and sent the packed house of Wolverine faithful home happy.

Schott threw six touchdown passes in the first half to four different receivers. The scoring opened with a 7-yard pass to senior Owen Gifford at the end of the first quarter. Schott avoided the Burley rush and drifted all the way to the far sideline before finding his receiver open in the end zone. Gifford and Schott hooked up again on a 25 yard pass play to put the home team up 14-0. 

Schott’s next two touchdown passes were caught by senior Travis Swanson--a 47-yard bomb midway through the second quarter and a 33 yard strike less than two minutes later to extend the lead to 28-0.

Turner Maza was the next receiver to reach the end zone, hauling in a short Schott pass and doing the rest on the ground, making several Bobcat defenders miss before crossing the goal line.

A six-yard pass to senior tight end Jubal Toothman capped the first half scoring for the Wolverines. It was the first high school touchdown reception for the converted offensive lineman.

“Cade and I worked a lot together this week, and he told me just to make sure I don’t drop it. It was awesome to get my first touchdown pass tonight against Burley,” he said.

Coach Kevin Stilling was pleased to see his team bounce back after  narrowly getting beat by Kimberly last Friday in a battle of the unbeatens.

“We had a great week of practice after a tough loss and it paid off on the field tonight,” he said.

The Wolverines travel to play Buhl next—at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. Burley will face Jerome at home.
