Wagon Days-Behind the Scenes with the Big Hitch Ore Wagons

Friday, September 6, 2019

They’re as thin as Twiggy. And as tall as Wilt Chamberlain.

And it’s incredible to think that someone would drive them up and down the Trail Creek Road, which boasted a 12 percent grade in the heyday of the Big Hitch ore wagons.

Even driving them around the corner at Ketchum’s Main Street and Sun Valley Road can be a formidable task.

Eye on Sun Valley’s Karen Bossick takes you behind the scenes as muleskinner Bobby Tanner, who drives the 20-mule Box team of “Death Valley Days” fame, readies his mules for this year’s Wagon Days Parade.
