Guyer Hot Springs Resort Lured Vacationers to Ketchum Before Sun Valley

Sunday, September 27, 2020

Before Sun Valley Resort opened up the Warm Springs side of Bald Mountain, there was the Guyer Hot Springs Resort. Built by a Civil War captain, it attracted Americans from all over wishing to emulate the European experience at such spas as Baden Baden.

An elevated bridge crossed Warm Springs Creek, ladies wore 16-button gloves as they danced in the pavilions and men swam in the buff while ladies splashed around in pantaloons.

Today the site is on private property, no longer accessible to the public. But Eye on Sun Valley’s Karen Bossick and Ketchum historian John Lundin take you to the site, which once housed a lavish two-story lodge, in today’s Eye on Sun Valley video.
