Those who mined and logged the area around Galena Lodge were no different than we are today. They had a penchant for fun when they weren’t slinging an axe, and they loved a good competition.
That’s why a newspaper of the era recounted the feat of a man on snowshoes who raced 5,000 feet down Gladiator Canyon in 16 seconds, complaining he could have gone faster if the snow hadn’t been sticky.
Galena Lodge still plays host to fun and games, whether to mountain bikers racing through the woods in the Galena Grinder or those taking part in today’s Ride Stride Glide bicycle-run-ski relay. Check out the scene as Karen Bossick takes you to last week’s Galena Loppet in today’s Eye on Sun Valley video.
