BY KAREN BOSSICK

The heartleaf arnica is a sunny wildflower that emerges along mountain trails and creeks in shady areas during mid-summer. The 13-ray member of the sunflower family gets its name from its heart-shaped leaves. Arnica-based teas and preparations are big in Germany where they’re used to treat acne, bleeding and pain. Native Americans used the root to treat sore throats, aching teeth, cuts and bruises.

Learn more about some of the wildflowers common to the Sun Valley area when Eye on Sun Valley’s Lisa Horton presents one of her popular Eye on Sun Valley wildflower videos.
