John Steel Hagenbuch hadn’t tested himself in the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation’s annual Baldy Hill Climb for five years. But he wasted no time showing the strength he’s built amassed over the past few years on the U.S. Nordic Ski Team and Dartmouth College team as he shot 3,100 vertical feet up Bald Mountain, breaking a record set by Miles Havlick in 2014.
