Suns Take Two from the Wheels

Friday, January 20, 2023

BY MICHAEL DAVID

The Sun Valley Suns Hockey Club rolled right through the visiting Wilmington Wheels this past weekend, sweeping the two-game series.

They won 4-1 Friday night and 4-2 Saturday night at the Campion Ice House in Hailey.

Among those scoring goals was Suns rookie Parker Weekes, grandson of the legendary Sun Valley Sun John Weekes. Others scoring goals were Nick Curry, Spencer Brendel, Justin Taylor, Taylor Rothgeb and Chad O’Brien, while Matt Cooper block 84 shots at goal. (Check out the action in today’s Eye on Sun Valley video.

Next up for the Suns will be Hollywood icon Bobby Farrelly’s East Coast Gutter Snipes. They will take on the Suns at the Campion Ice House at 7:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20 and 21, with Hailey Ice the beneficiary. Farrelly usually finds a couple of retired National Hockey League players (think “ringers”) to add to his already strong squad. And things always get interesting on and off the ice when the Gutter Snipes are in town.
