The Wolverines traveled south to Jerome Friday night still flush with the glow of an opening season win over the bigger Pocatello High School.

But their bid to preserve their undefeated season would not come easy.

On a chilly night in front of a brilliant sunset, the Jerome Tigers struck pay dirt first, going up 7-0.

Senior running back Turner Maza—the Wolverines new transfer—answered back with a touchdown halfway through the first quarter. But Wood River’s attempt to go for two failed, leaving the Wolverines one point down.

Both teams flexed their defensive muscles during the next couple touches until Taylor Koth booted a 32-yard field goal, giving the Wolverines a 9-7 lead with 52 seconds left in the first half.

Any thoughts the Wolverines had of trotting off the field with that lead safely in hand were dashed as Jerome drove down the field with a long pass play to the four-yard line. Fortunately for the Wolverines, Travis Swanson intercepted the next pass in the end zone to preserve the Wolverines’ halftime lead.

When play resumed, the Tigers regrouped regaining the lead. But Maza answered back, punching in an 11-yard touchdown run.

The Tigers fumbled the kick-off and Wolverines quarterback Cade Schott made them pay with a 30-yard touchdown.

The Wolverines, now 2-0, will play Twin Falls at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 at Twin Falls High School.
