The battle for soccer supremacy in the Wood River Valley took place this weekend at Founder’s soccer field in Hailey. The girls and boys soccer teams from Community School and Wood River took it to the pitch in front of a large and vocal crowd on this crisp Saturday afternoon.
The Community School girls defeated the Wolverines in the first game of the day by a final score of 3-0. Junior Lily Fitzgerald scored all three goals for the Cutthroats in the first half, and senior goaltender Ali Rafton and her defense kept the Wolverines off the scoreboard the entire contest.
In the second game, the Wood River boys erased a 1-0 deficit with two second-half goals to defeat the Cutthroats 2-1.
Next up for the Cutthroat girls and boys are away matches against Buhl on Tuesday, Sept.19. Wood River girls next will face Twin Falls on Monday at home. The game starts at 4:30 p.m. The Wolverine boys will match up with Twin Falls on Monday in Twin Falls.
