The Wood River Wolverines lost big to the Kimberly Bulldogs in front of a packed stadium at Phil Homer Field Friday night.
By the time the Homecoming game was over, they had been crushed 29-9.
The visitors jumped out to an early 8-0 lead on their opening drive. The Wolverines forced a safety to get within six points, 8-2, but Kimberly scored twice before the end of the half to lead 22-2 at the break.
The Wood River defense stiffened in the second half, holding Kimberly to only one touchdown. But the offense never got rolling. The Wolverines offense finally scored in the final minutes, as sophomore quarterback Andrew Nelson scampered in from five yards out for a Wood River touchdown, providing the final tally.
Next up for the Wolverines is a matchup with the Burley Bobcats in Burley on Friday, September 29.
