Sawtooth Ski Festival Raises Money for Alturas Lake Ski Trails

Saturday, March 23, 2019

Nordic skiing is often thought of as a solitary sport with a long lanky skier kicking and gliding his way across an isolated snowscape. But it gets downright social when the Sawtooth Ski Festival sets up its soup kitchen on a hillside near Alturas Lake.

Skiers came together to start the two-day Sawtooth Ski Festival to raise money to continue grooming ski trails near Alturas Lake years ago after Busterback Ranch closed its doors. This year festivities had to be delayed a week after avalanches blocked access to the trails for four days. But that didn’t keep folks away.
