Johnny Radford Knows How to Find the Hoops
Tuesday, March 10, 2020

Johnny Radford, who was named to the Idaho High School All-Star Basketball Games to be held March 14 in Coeur d’Alene, has been hooping on the courts at Wood River High School since he learned how to lace up his high tops. The young Radford hung out on the hardwood with a ball in his hands and watched his mom and dad coach basketball.

While in middle school, Johnny watched and studied his big sister Blair as she exhibited her basketball skills for the Wolverines and waited for his time to come. He never hesitated to join the big kids in pick-up games, always holding his own against the older and stronger boys.

His time came as a freshman who slipped immediately onto the court in a leadership role despite his somewhat diminutive size. He could handle the basketball and shoot from almost anywhere and his calm, cool and collective demeanor demanded respect from his teammates and his opponents.

Radford went on to lead his team from the point guard position for four years, eventually passing Brad Jaques to become the all-time scoring leader for the Wolverines. He averaged  just under 20 points per game over his career and scored 51 points in his last game alone. Radford has accepted an offer to play basketball for the College of Idaho in Caldwell next year.

Hear from Johnny himself in today's video as Eye on Sun Valley’s Michael David asks about his aspirations.
