Botanicals, Birds and Bears, Oh My!

Botanical watercolorist Lisa Holley paints finely rendered animal portraits with a witty twist. Inspired by the works of 16th century Italian Mannerist painter, Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Lisa uses a variety of plants, flowers, bugs, fish, and other creatures which she carefully arranges to resemble animal portraits.

For example, a rainbow trout painting from her popular “You Are What You Eat” series is composed entirely of the insects, flies and other creatures which the trout would have eaten during its lifetime.

Whether it is a heron, a hummingbird, a bear, a cat, or a dog, Lisa’s paintings encourage the viewer to observe the subject with new insights. Her attention to detail is evident in her paintings as well as in her stunning home/studio which is perched amidst the Ketchum Industrial Center.
