Turning Grapes into Wine

Sunday, October 11, 2020

Twenty years ago, Sun Valley wine importer Bob and his wife Chris Gertschen bought two acres above the Snake River near Hagerman where they established the Gertschen Grape Ranch. They planted hundreds of grape vines, then harvested the grapes by hand, creating syrah wine, syrah jelly and more.

Eye on Sun Valley’s Karen Bossick recently visited the vineyard where she followed the grapes to the Holesinsky Winery in Buhl where the grapes were separated from their stems and turned into a light fruity Rose of Syrah. Learn about the unusual techniques James Holesinky uses to enhance the Gertschens’ harvest and why Hagerman is such an ideal place to “grow wine” in today’s Eye on Sun Valley video.
