Hunting-The Wood River Valley’s Rite of Passage

Thursday, December 3, 2020

The number of hunters in the United States is declining. It downsized from 13.7 million in 2011 to 11.5 million five years later, and it’s just half of what it was 50 years ago. The largest part of the decline was in the 18-34 age group.

But hunting remains alive and well in the Wood River Valley. Indeed, it’s a rite of passage as Dads and Grandpas take their young’uns out into the scrubland and up mountain slopes in pursuit of a grouse or buck.

Eye on Sun Valley’s Ben Drummond, who graduated from Wood River High School in 2020, is among those young’uns who grew up hunting alongside his family members. Watch as he takes you on a spectacularly filmed hunting trip that he took just a few weeks ago in today’s Eye on Sun Valley video.
