While members of Sun Valley’s Snowsports School kept alive the tradition of the Christmas Eve torchlight parade on Dollar Mountain this year, it was half-pints that performed the honors at Rotarun ski area on New Year’s Eve.

Steve and Lynne Heidel’s son and daughter-in-law Will Heidel and Kim Havens organized a mini-torchlight parade during Rotarun’s New Year’s Eve party.

Right before the poma lift closed, they gathered the Heidels’ five grandchildren, ages 7 through 14, and some of their friends at the top of the run.

They provided them with three-foot sparklers and the kids skied down in torchlight parade fashion to the delight of those watching from the bottom of the hill. And, as you can see in this video, the kids definitely have a future awaiting them should they one day grow up to be a ski instructor and take part in Sun Valley Resort’s storied tradition.
