Suns Don’t Back Down But Drop a Pair to the Wheels

BY MICHAEL DAVID

The Wilmington Wheels made their first ever trip to Hailey to play a two-game set against the Sun Valley Suns. They made the most of their opportunity, winning 4-3 Friday night and 5-3 Saturday for the series sweep.

Wilmington’s roster is mostly former Division I players. They were strong and fast with no weak links for the Suns to exploit. Their goalie, Matt Tendler, stood on his head all weekend, turning back almost all of  Sun Valley’s scoring chances.

Mike Curry, Kyle Mitsunaga and Derek Grimes scored goals on Friday, while Spencer Brendel and Johnny Doe put it between the pipes Saturday. Mitsunaga, aka Mitzy, scored his second goal of the weekend as well.

Suns match up Friday and Saturday against the always talented and entertaining East Coast Guttersnipes. Comic Hollywood icon Bobby Farrelly and his band of merry men will make their annual pilgrimage to Sun Valley, doing battle with the Suns at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 and 22 at the Campion Ice House.

Tickets can be pre-purchased at PK’s Ski Shop on Leadville Avenue  in Ketchum.
