The Sun Valley Suns ended their 2021-2022 home schedule with a hard-fought 5-2 victory over the Vail Yeti in front of a sell-out crowd at the Campion Ice House in Hailey. The rival Yetis had defeated the home team 5-2 on Friday night.
Vail jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in Friday’s contest and the Suns were unable to fight their way back from the early deficit, dropping the first game to their Black Diamond Hockey League opponents. So much for any stiffness caused by the 14-hour bus trip from Vail to Hailey on Friday!
Sun Valley flipped the script on Saturday in the final game of the home season, scoring two goals out of the gate and keeping the visitors at bay for the remainder of the contest for the 5-2 triumph. It was a hard-hitting affair, marred only slightly by several on-ice fisticuffs and multiple game misconduct penalties.
An all-around great hockey game witnessed by the 500 loyal Suns’ fans.
Between the first and second periods, the Suns and the fans honored the long-time player, coach, GM, CEO of the organization, John “Cub” Burke. Several of the Suns alumni attended the game and participated in the ceremony.
The Suns travel to Santa Rosa, California to wrap up the season with two games against the Santa Rosa Growlers March 11 and 12. Tickets are available at PK’s Ski & Sports if you want to make the trip to sunny Santa Rosa with the boys!!
Meanwhile, check out the action in today's Eye on Sun Valley video.
