Brava Piano Duo will present selections from Johannes Brahms, J.S. Bach and others in a free concert at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 201 Sun Valley Road.
Sue Miller, who has taught many students in the Wood River Valley, and Allison Bangertner, have performed together for thee past 10 years as part of the Stage Door Series and Piano Celebration Series in Twin Falls. They’ve also performed with the Magic Philharmonic in Burley and the Magic Valley Symphony in Twin Falls.
They started as two pianists sight reading duets, and this past summer they studied together at the Orford Music Academy in Orford, Quebec, Canada with Concert pianist and Duo Piano artist Greg Anderson.
The two will perform Brahms’ “Variations on a theme from Joseph Hayden;” J.S. Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major;” Francis Poulenc’s “Elegie” and “Sonata for One or Two Pianos” and William Bolcom’s “The Garden of Eden—Three Rags for Two Pianos.”
Sue Miller has been a professor of music at the College of Southern Idaho since 1993, teaching Music Theory, Aural Skills, Class and Private Piano. She holds a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy form Boise State University where she studied with Madeleine Hsu and Del Parkinson.
She accompanied the CSI Chamber Choir for 23 years and the Magic Valley Chorale for 15 and was head of the Piano Department at the Sun Valley Music Festival School of Music and Summer Institute from 2000 to 2022. She continues to participate in the Sun Valley Summer Institute.
Allison Bangerter has taught private and group piano lessons for 22 years. She earned her Master of Music Degree from Arizona State University in piano performance. She is currently the vice president of the Magic Valley Music Teachers Association.
