How can Sun Valley retain its unique character and “green heart” in the face of external pressures?

Jaap Vos, professor of Planning and Natural Resources at the University of Idaho, will offer his thoughts at 6 p.m. tonight--Thursday, March 16--at Ketchum’s Community Library. The presentation is part of the Wood River Land Trust’s Thinking Globally, Acting Locally speaker series.

The Land Trust’s Lands Program director Keri York and Director Scott Boettger will be on hand for the discussion. They will also discuss the Land Trust’s Regional Visioning Effort.

The Effort wants to identify opportunities to balance natural resource protection and growth to protect  the valley’s character.

Vos spoke at the Sun Valley Economic Development’s Economic Summit this past fall. Zoning to keep hillsides free of houses and highways free of commercial development undeveloped were key in preserving the green heart of the valley in the 1970s, he said. Today’s citizenry must figure out what pieces of the valley hold the living soul of the place today.

Those who wish to attend in person may reserve a spot at https://thecommunitylibrary.libcal.com/event/9510703?blm_aid=35372. The program also will be livestreamed and available to watch later at https://vimeo.com/event/2945599.
