Finally! MET HD Live is back in Sun Valley.
The live broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera Simulcast Operas will have its first screening at the Magic Lantern Theater in Ketchum on Saturday, May 20.
Sun Valley Opera will present “Don Giovanni” at 10:55 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Magic Lantern. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. The concession stand with wine, popcorn and other goodies will be open.
Sun Valley Opera had hoped to show the MET HD Live series at Magic Lantern this past winter after the Hailey theater that had been screening the series closed. But technicians were unable to get the necessary technology up and running on the rooftop before deep snows settled in.
Saturday’s “Don Giovanni” will feature Ivo van Hove, the Tony Award-winning director of Broadway’s “A View from the Bridge” and “West Side Story,” in his Met debut.
He has set Mozart’s tale of deceit and damnation in an abstract architectural landscape as he attempts to shine light into the dark corners of the tragicomedy’s story and its characters.
Maestro Nathalie Stutzmann makes her Met debut conducting a star-studded cast led by baritone Peter Mattei as the Don Giovanni. He is appearing alongside bass-baritone Adam Plachetka’s Leporello and sopranos Federica Lombardi, Ana Maria Martinez and Ying Fang. Tenor Ben Bliss portrays Don Ottavio.
The last MET HD Live opera of the season “Die Zauberflote” will be presented on June 3. The Magic Lantern is a cash-only theater with tickets available at the door.
