Sun Valley’s Taylor Moe ended the year on a high note with the hope of continuing her success in the new year.
Moe, a ski racer with the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Alpine U16 team, took first place overall in both women’s giant slalom races at the Annual Sean Nurse Memorial Race held in Jackson Hole, Wyo., just before Christmas.
Ulrich Rossi took second overall on day one of the men’s giant slalom, and Huxley Flood took second overall on day two.
“To see fast skiing already from this crew and the speed show from so many different athletes is rewarding to this group's process,” said SVSEF Alpine Program Director Will Brandenburg. “The slow start to the season here in the valley and lack of snow really tested our programming philosophy. We don’t train as many days on snow as other clubs in the offseason, choosing to focus on holistic development and building the whole athlete. Can’t wait to watch this group continue through their journey this season.”
The athletes maintained their momentum in slalom for the final two days of racing, with Taylor Moe taking second and first place in the women’s slalom races respectively, landing her in first place overall for the four-day Sean Nurse Memorial race series. Kennedy Kelly and Alyssa Huntsman followed up in the top 20 on day one, and Elliot Leahy placed 13th on day two.
For the men, Ulrich Rossi took the top step overall on the slalom podium in Wednesday’s race and Tucker Reimund rounded out the overall slalom podium in third place in Thursday’s race.
