See all of the short films nominated for the Academy Awards in 2017 over four evenings this coming week.
The Sun Valley Center for the Arts will screen the films at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday Feb. 21 and 22 and Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 28 and March 1, at the Magic Lantern Cinemas in Ketchum.
A short film, defined by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is an original motion picture running 40 minutes or less.
The first night on Feb. 21 is dedicated to films in the live-action category. The second, on Feb. 22, is dedicated to animated categories. The second week’s screenings include two different lineups of Oscar-nominated short documentary films.
Kristine Bretall, The Center’s director of Performing Arts, noted that Hollywood sometimes screens shorts prior to feature-length animated films. But it’s nearly impossible for the public to see documentary and live-action shorts.
“In this valley that loves competition, these screenings will give you a leg up at winning your Oscar party voting,” she said.
Tickets for each night are $10 for SVCA members and $12 for nonmembers. They may be purchased in advance at www.sunvalleycenter.org or at The Center’s box office at Fifth and Washington streets in Ketchum.
