Learn the latest about efforts to preserve Silver Creek at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 1.
Greg Loomis, a professional fly fishing guide and director of the Silver Creek Alliance, will make a free presentation from 5 to 7 p.m. at Whiskey Jacques, 251 Main St. in Ketchum, on behalf of the Hemingway Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
Silver Creek, southeast of Bellevue, is one of the ecological gems of the Wood River Valley. It’s a world renowned fishery, it provides significant wildlife habitat and it provides a place for 150 species of birds to drink up on their way to and fro on that highway in the sky.
It has, however, faced a number of challenges with low flows, increased water temperatures and the compromised health of the fishery. This year’s low snowpack may lead to additional challenges.
The presentation will offer an excellent opportunity to learn the science behind what’s been happening there, the current status of Silver Creek and the projected issues and solutions in its future, said Ed Northen.
