Learn about snow science and avalanche ecology on a free snowshoe hike presented by the Idaho Conservation League.
Josh Johnson, Central Idaho conservation associate for the ICL, will lead the hike at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 3. The hike will originate at Galena Lodge, 24 miles north of Ketchum. It is expected to last two hours.
Participants will learn about the science of snow and how changes in the snowpack can result in destructive avalanches that affect both humans and the natural environment. This is not an avalanche safety course.
The trek is expected to cover two miles with minimal elevation gain. Snowshoes can be rented at the lodge.
While free, reservations are encouraged, as the number of participants is limited. To reserve your space, call Josh Johnson at 208-726-7485, extension 2, or email jjohnson@idahoconservation.org.
