Sun Valley Photographer James Bourret and mixed media artist Sharon Maley will be feted during a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at Zenergy Health Club, Spa & Boutique in Ketchum. Refreshments will be served.
The reception celebrates the opening of an exhibition featuring works by the two that was curated by Robin Reiners Art Consultation + Representation.
“There has been a consistent recognition that the art work curated at Zenergy adds to the relaxation and healing experience of the spa,” said Robin Reiners, who formerly owned Gallery DeNovo in Ketchum. “It is not only welcomed by members but it’s also sought after by visitors and guests of the Limelight Hotel.”
Bourret has been deeply moved over the years by images of the natural world created by the masters of “straight photography.” Especially, still images that are tranquil and inherently passive.
His newest work features no details but instead focuses on color and shapes, evoking a sense of movement and possibility.
His black and white digital images of ice from his “Winter’s Veil” series has been exhibited at the San Diego Natural History Museum. Their dense grouping in the current exhibition allows viewers to compare and contrast nature’s patterns, as Bourret has not altered them in any way.
Maley creates her encaustic works in her Ketchum studio, interspersing scraping, layering and fusing to produce encaustic and resin collage works.
Like Bourret, she draws her inspiration from the natural elements found in the surrounding landscape of Idaho. She has incorporated sections of plaster and handmade and painted papers into her works, all evocative of the patterns and organic randomness derived from nature.
Maley’s works are in the hands of private art collectors and such corporate offices as Yahoo and Google.
