Cars lined the road at Silver Creek Preserve as fishermen celebrated the opening day of fishing at one of the world’s premier trout streams Saturday.
While many shook off the cobwebs, at least one reeled in a two-foot trout.
“I’ve never seen anyone catch a fish before and I saw at least 10 fish caught today,” said Hailey resident Marty Lyon, adding that it was nearly enough to inspire him to take up the rod and reel.
About a hundred people bellied up to the Nature Conservancy cabin for barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs. And many of those knocked off the calories with a quick stroll down the nature trail past wild iris, Solomon’s false seal and other flowers in bloom.
Local plein air artists, such as Pam Street, Jineen Griffith, Connie Pepper and Susan Perrin.
Meanwhile, Nancy Mendelsohn described how her parents were coming from Washington State to spend two weeks volunteering at the Preserve.
“Dad has fished Silver Creek for years so they should enjoy this,” she said. “They’ll let them stay in a cabin and everything.”
