Thirty-eight Wood River Valley children will get new bikes, thanks to the 9th annual Miles for Smiles.
The Blaine County Recreation District, The Elephant’s Perch, Mountain Rides, St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation and valley residents Brian Ross and Susan Reinstein have collaborated to provide the bicycles to children who might otherwise go without wheels this summer.
The program is based on the idea that every child deserves a bike. It provides children with transportation, exercise and a way to learn responsibility and safety.
Community volunteers and employees at The Elephant’s Perch helped build the bikes. Mountain Rides and the St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation provided bicycle helmets.
The partnership has pasted a lot of smiles on the faces of children in Blaine County, said School Social Worker Tod Gunter.
“For many, it’s their first time having a brand new bike of their own,” he added.
