A Carey man has been chosen to fill a vacancy on the Blaine County School District’s Board of Trustees.
Ryan Degn received a unanimous vote from board members for the Zone 1 vacancy. The other candidate was Bellevue resident Alexis Lindberg.
Degn lives with his wife and two children in Carey and works for Buffalo Electric.
He replaces former School Board Chairman Shawn Bennion, who resigned in July after seven years on the board. Bennion said he wanted to focus on his family and his job as maintenance manager at Sun Valley Resort.
Degn’s term runs through 2019.
Board Chair Rob Clayton said that both candidates brought different strengths to the board. Trustees said that Degn’s strengths included a commitment to student achievement and success for all.
“What tipped the balance for me is that Mr. Degn speaks from the heart,” said Board Vice Chair Ellen Mandeville. “It’s necessary to have a passion for education in this volunteer job.”
Degn will be sworn in at the regular Tuesday, Oct. 9, Board of Trustees meeting.
