The president and CEO of the Ms. Foundation for Women will be the keynote speaker at the Winter Education Forum of the Wood River Women’s Foundation.

Teresa C. Younger will discuss “Be the Kind of Woman…” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Ketchum’s Community Library. The speech is open to the public and there is no charge.

Younger heads up an organization that was founded in 1973 by a handful of women, including Gloria Steinem and Marlo Thomas. The first and oldest women’s foundation in the United States, it is focused on building women’s collective power.

Younger herself has been named one of the “50 Most Powerful Women in Philanthropy” by “Inside Philanthropy” and her contributions and expertise in the nonprofit and social justice arenas are widely recognized.

She is frequently featured in national media, including NPR, USA Today, New York Times, MSNBC, Elle Magazine and other publications.

Under Younger’s leadership the Foundation launched #MyFeminism, a multimedia campaign sparking a national conversation on feminism. It funded a groundbreaking report on the sexual abuse-to-prison pipeline. It led a campaign to hold the NFL accountable for violence against women. And it joined women’s foundations at the White House under the Obama Administration to announce a $100 million funding commitment to create pathways to economic opportunity for low-income women and girls.

Most recently, Younger led the development of the Ms. Foundaton’s new strategic plan to challenge the philanthropic sector to invest in women and girls of color.

“My talk, ‘Be the Kind of Woman…’ will inspire and challenge listeners to start each day recognizing the power and possibility it holds,” she said. “Both the Wood River Women’s Foundation and the Ms. Foundation for women are fully focused on making a collective impact in our communities. I look forward to sharing stories of the important influence women wield when we are working together.”

WRWF President Peggy Grove said the WRWF is pleased to bring such a renowned and inspiring leader to the community to talk about how women can work together to better this world.

“Ms. Younger has, for the past 20 years, been in the vanguard of some of the most critical issues affecting women and their communities and in her talk will address how each and every one of us can make a difference here and now,” she said.

The WRWF Winter Education Forum is an annual event intended to raise its members’ collective giving expertise and to further its work of creating a culture of philanthropy among members and throughout the Wood River Valley.
