Learn about dark matter—thought to account for 85 percent of the matter in the universe. And dark energy—an unknown form of energy thought to accelerate the expansion of the universe.
Astronomy expert Matt Benjamin will “Bring the Dark to Light” tonight when The Konditorei Bakery and Café at Sun Valley Resort offers a free presentation on Sun Valley’s dark sky.
The program will start at 6 p.m. tonight—Wednesday, May 22.
Just over a year ago the area around Sun Valley was designated as the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve—the first Dark Sky Reserve in the United States.
Benjamin will delve into the depths of our dark skies and the dark side of the universe as he discusses dark matter, dark energy and black holes.
Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase.
Benjamin, who lives in Boulder, Colo., is a frequent visitor to the Sun Valley area. A scientist, he used to manage programs at Fiske Planetarium at the University of Colorado-Boulder. He has a degree in astronomy and astrophysics from the University of Colorado.
The program is hosted by the Konditorei and the Idaho Conservation League.
