STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

Mountain Humane is inviting youngsters to its first ever HUMAN EDUCATION DAY CAMP in its new animal welfare campus.

Two summer series are being offered for ages 6 through 12: Today through June 20 and July 29 through Aug. 1. Participants may come for one day or all the dates in each session.

Youngsters, who will be divided according to age for some activities, will learn how to greet a dog and about responsible animal care. They also will see a demonstration by the Blaine County Sheriff K-9 Unit.

Cost is $60 a day and the program is limited to 25 participants each day. Every day is a little different, said Cyndy King, Mountain Humane’s marketing coordinator.

It’s designed to teach social and emotional skills while increasing compassion and empathy through research-based tools and curriculum.

  • Mountain Humane is also offering a TALL TAILS READING PROGRAM as a way for children to make a difference in the lives of animals while developing their reading skills.

After completing a 30-minute orientation with a parent, young readers are welcome to return time and time again to read to cats between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.

For more information or to sign up, visit www.mountainhumane.org/humane-edu or call 208-788-4351, extension 111.
