Think of the Wood River Women’s Foundation and you might think of 350 women dressed in frilly summer dresses sipping Arnold Palmers at one of their Mix and Mingles.

But ask the Blaine County Sheriff’s Department about this philanthropic organization and chances are they will connect the women with a Polaris UTV able to climb up rugged backcountry roads and over 12-inch boulders.

Deputies from the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office recently used a Search and Rescue Polaris UTV purchased with a grant awarded from the WRWF in 2016 to rescue a couple involved in an off-road vehicle accident near historic Boulder City on Monday, Aug. 19.

The couple had rolled their UTV on its side 4.5 miles up Boulder Creek from Highway 75 near milepost 141. They were not injured but needed help getting out.

Two Blaine County Sheriff’s deputies and a U.S. Forest Service officer responded to the scene, accessing the area with their Polaris off-road vehicle They then gave the couple a ride to their vehicle, which was parked near the highway, and made arrangements for a towing company to remove the damaged UTV.

“This valuable piece of equipment has been used many times for rescues and patrol functions. We are thankful for tis donation and also the ability to give assistance to this couple in need,” said Sheriff Steve Harkins.
