Learn tips for parenting, grandparenting and even teachable moments. And take a private tour of Dale Chihuly’s Ulysses Cylinders this week at The Community Library.
- Today—Tuesday, Nov. 5—the library’s Programs and Education Manager Martha Williams will conduct drop-in tours of the Ulysses Cylinders on display in the library’s foyer through Jan. 10, 2020. The cylinders, inspired by James Joyce’s novel, combine the glassblowing artistry of Dale Chihuly with the pen and ink drawings of Seaver Leslie.
- Dr. Alexandra Delis-Abrams will offer a light-hearted presentation on parenting and grandparenting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in a program titled "Refresh Your Parenting Expertise." She is the author of "ABC Feelings,' which helps children and parents develop emotional literacy by correlating feelings with the alphabet.
- Eliott Jacobs, the Upper School English teacher at Sun Valley Community School, will lead a workshop for teens and adults inspired by the cylinders from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 9, at the library.
The workshop will follow the protagonists Leopold Bloom and Stephen Dedalus around Dublin in the course of an ordinary day in early 20th century Ireland. The workshop will explore the storytelling mechanism of the hero’s journey through writing, photography, multimedia and maps.
The workshop is free but registration is required at mwilliams@comlib.org.
P.S. A program on "Homeopathy: Help Your Body Heal Itself" that had been scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled--the doctor is recuperating.
