The coronavirus may have dimmed the lights at The Spot. But, they say, the show must go on.
To that effect members of The Spot are showing a series of special performances celebrating their work over the past five years.
They will show the Operation Spot performances as they hold a month-long virtual fundraiser through Aug. 12.
New performances will be released every Sunday and will be available to view for one week. A password-protected link will be given to donors to watch the entire series.
Donations of any amount will enable The Spot to continue to tell its stories, teach its tuition-free Young Compay, thereby fostering the next generation of artists in the valley.
The students not only learn how to mount a production from the ground up, including technical aspects, but they learn confidence and other personal skills.
Typically, The Spot’s annual summer fundraiser accounts for up to half of its donations for the year. That’s 75 percent of the operating budget.
The Spot’s annual lease in 2019 cost $45,000. The average per show expense was $15,000 per play and $30,000 per musical. And yearly contracts and payroll for six part-time artistic staff members cost $88,000.
