Get acquainted with one of the legendary characters of the Sun Valley area on Thursday when Sun Valley Community School teacher Phil Huss talks about his new book on Ernest Hemingway.
Huss will discuss his new book, “Hemingway’s Sun Valley: Local Stories Behind His Code, Characters and Crisis,” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, via Zoom.
The book recounts stories about Hemingway’s time in the Wood River Valley and the friends here whom he called “The Family.”
“Hemingway was part of our valley’s community for over 22 years. He hunted, drank with friends and wrote several of his most praised works here,” said adult programs coordinator Kristin Fletcher. “Phil’s book captures the essence of those days. Hemingway was a man’s man who lived intensely guided by a heroic code, a code which also informed characters in his best known writings.”
Huss has taught literary courses, including a course on Hemingway, for 20 years at Sun Valley Community School. A graduate of Amherst College and Boston College, he is a frequent speaker at the Ernest Hemingway Seminar held each September at Ketchum’s Community Library.
